Sabbath Moments
July 24, 2010
On Saturdays we join Colleen at Thoughts on Grace to share those moments we rested quietly in God. Sometimes I may not be resting physically, but I am with God. My Sabbath Moments for this week:
- I began re-reading Seeking God’s Will through Faith, Hope and Charity by Father Philip Schuster, OSB and blogged about this holy monk who was my friend. Quite a story.
- Early in the day several times this week I went out to gather asparagus beans. The crop is huge and a huge blessing from God. I have steamed and frozen a couple of batches this week in addition to the ones we used for ourselves and gave away to a single mom on a tight budget. As I snip the beans and sniff the scent of their lovely flowers, I thank God for the food He gave us so bountifully. It may seem odd to say, but the simple act of harvesting veggies brings me peace and joy.
- I completed several digital paintings this week. Painting is very relaxing for me. I thank God for opening up this new avenue of of creativity after He closed off others.
Life is so hectic and takes so much energy that Sabbath Moments become a necessary means to keep focused on the Lord and our purpose for living. God is always waiting for us to discover Him in the ordinary.

What beautiful moments here! Gardening, sharing your garden, reading, painting. Thanks for sharing. I will have to check out that book!
Colleen, I promise you will not be disappointed in the book. Father Philip lived what he wrote. His saintly simplicity and total humanness inspired me. If I could be like him everything would be right in my world.
Such lovely Sabbath Moments! I completely relate to #2! I feel that same sense of peace and joy when I hang laundry outdoors to dry as well!
I hope you will share more about your digital painting. I am unfamiliar with this art form. Would you allow us to see your work…or tell us more about how it is done? I am very interested!
God bless you in your Sabbath Moments!
I have and art and photos album at Facebook you are welcome to look at. If you sign up to be my friend you will get to see all my postings, among which are the art pieces I paint. I am a beginner at art and it is through Corel Painter 11 along with Adobe Photoshop Essentials that I am able to create my work. I have a tremor in my hands, but that’s OK using digital brushes. If you goof up, just back up and re-do. You can try out many different looks until you find the best type of brush and color palette that expresses what you want. Corel is like having a fantastically supplied art shop on your lap top. I work from photos because I can’t draw freehand. Digital paintings can be printed through services that specialize in this step of a finished work. Someday I hope to be able to do paintings for people from photos they have taken as well as sell my own work.
