Having Fun with Wordle

February 26, 2013

It pays to join the Sunday Snippets blog roundup at RAnn’s This That and the Other Thing because you never know what interesting item you might find in somebody’s post or comments, or what new posts you might be led to in a participant’s posts. Last Sunday I drifted to a blog I’ve not been to and in the comment section was a reference to the Wordle web site.

“What in the world is that?” I wondered, so I googled it. Wordle is a toy for generating word clouds out of text you provide. When I’m not feeling particularly well, I like to play with digital drawing and painting among other things, and I’m always looking for possibilities for creating images to use on my blog. Wordle proved to be a good tool to create a base image I could play with in another art program.

I took the beautiful Anima Christi (Soul of Christ) prayer and made this image. Real artists might say, “Yuck!”, but I had fun learning and will probably use this tool in the future. You might like it too.

  3. I love that! What fun! And I am no artist so things like that are fun for me. Makes me feel creative!
    I like Victor’s idea too!

  5. Colleen and Victor, Maybe I will catch a bit of time to play with Wordle and see what it will generate for the Our Father. Once you know how the program operates, you can use the rules to affect the outcome. I have to use a second program to get the final effects I want, but that’s OK.
